CHARACTER CHALLENGE
This month, our challenge is Character Exploration
Take one or more characters from a story, your novels, short stories, mythology or even existing work and put them in a situation they would normally or traditionally be found in. Throw them out of their natural element and see what happens. Challenge yourself and your characters, try something new. Or, mix it up even more. Partner up with a fellow writer and trade characters or settings. Put your characters in the world setting of a friend's novel or write your friend's characters into the setting of your novel.
The point of this challenge is to... well challenge your characters!
This month's theme was chosen by William Ewing, the winner of our very first challenge.

Permanently closing for submissions on Jan 1, 2016 (Begins 82 days from now)
Strange Musings Press is looking for short funny paranormal stories of life after death for our new anthology, Alternate Hilarities 5: One Star Reviews of the Afterlife.
I don't want to lock anyone down as to what I am looking for, but you need to have two things for sure. It needs to deal with the afterlife and it needs to be funny. I'm looking for administrative mistakes in heaven, weird deals with the devil, strange stories of hauntings and odd interpretations of eternity. I will consider Fantasy, Science Fiction or Horror if you make some connection to the afterlife.

Permanently closing for submissions on Dec 15, 2015 (Begins 65 days from now)martianmigrainepress.com/Cthulhusattva-Lovecraftian-Tales-of-the-Black-Gnosis
What of the opposite numbers to your standard Lovecraftian hero? What of those servants of the Great Old Ones? The cultists. Sorcerers. Witches. Lone madmen and women. What of those who go seeking that dark enlightenment of their own free will? What of the individuals who choose to cast off from the shores of humanity’s placid island of ignorance, who choose to voyage far on those black seas of infinity that surround that island?

SNAFU: Unnatural Selection
cohesionpress.com/snafu-unnatural-selection/
Anacondas, piranha, giant crocodiles/alligators/lizards, mutated bears near nuclear power stations, prehistoric sharks. These are a few of my favourite things.
All of these featured heavily in books and films of the 70s and 80s, when bio-horror was at its modern peak. For this anthology of military-bio-horror stories, we are looking for you to take us back to those days.
Think Greg McLean’s Rogue, Lake Placid, Eight-legged Freaks, Anaconda, Meg, Prophecy, Deep Blue Sea, and other modern films/books where people (in this case soldiers) are fighting against mutated or ultra-dangerous animals.
Stories must include a strong military-combat aspect.
Submission Window - Sep 1, 2015 thru Nov 30, 2015 (Ends 50 days from now)
Put a Spell on You
www.stormmoonpress.com/anthologies.aspx
Genres: Paranormal Theme: General Pairings: Lesbian
Submission Deadline: December 31, 2015 Required Word Count: 10,000 - 20,000 HEA or HFN Ending Required? Yes
Does the ability to cast spells make someone evil? And even if they are, is anything ever that simple? In I Put a Spell on You, we're looking for short stories that star lesbians who can work magic, and we're not talking your typical 'feminine wiles', but spells of a supernatural calibre.
What kind of powers does your female spellcaster have? Is it a power they're born with or something have to study and train for? Do they have good influences helping to keep them on a positive path, or are people trying to use and abuse their powers for their own gain? Love spell gone wrong? Perhaps a magical plan backfires, sending her entire magical team into temporal flux. When magic is afoot, a tricky and complicated world is a certainty. Show us how your spellcaster navigates all the conflicts and challenges put before them and give them some steamy scenes with a female counterpart (or more than one) while you're at it.
